Halloween is this Saturday, and I bet your kids are super excited, and you are dreading it. It’s ok to admit it if you are, we understand.

Having the kids stay up late with a massive sugar rush could be a recipe for disaster! Not only is the prospect of a long Saturday night upon you, the chances of chocolate, gum, jolly ranchers or some other type of delicious treat ending up on your carpet goes through the roof!

While preventing this from occurring would be ideal, we both know that the probability of this happening is quite low.

So we want to help you stay ahead of the game by sharing the best ways to remove chocolate stains, gum, and hard candies from your carpet.

Armed with this information, Halloween should come and go without a hitch!

Removing Chocolate Stains

When it comes to removing stains such as chocolate timing is everything. The longer chocolate stays on your carpet, the harder the stain will be to remove.

There are more than a few ways to remove a chocolate stain from your carpet, so we are going to give you some of the quickest ways to get the job done!

To quickly remove a chocolate stain from your carpet follow these steps:

  1. Apply cold water onto the chocolate stain
  2. Apply dishwashing detergent to the stain
  3. Grab a clean cloth and wipe the stain in a circular motion
  4. Rinse with cold water
  5. Repeat if necessary

You might also find success with this process:

  1. Make a detergent solution by adding ¼ teaspoon of laundry detergent to a cup of warm water.
  2. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and dab it onto the stain, saturate the whole area
  3. Wait 15 minutes
  4. Remove excess moisture with a clean cloth.
  5. Make a white vinegar solution by mixing 2 tablespoons of vinegar with 4 cups of water.
  6. Dab stain repeatedly with vinegar solution
  7. Wait 15 minutes
  8. Remove excess moisture with a warm cloth.
  9. Repeat as needed.

Both of these solutions are effective at removing chocolate stains from your carpet.

Removing Gum From Carpet

Gum is not a fun substance to remove from carpet, but it can be done. Just like chocolate, there are multiple ways to remove gum from your carpet.

Blast It With A Blow Dryer

A simple way to remove gum from your carpet is to blast it with a blow dryer. The heat from the blow dryer will soften the gum, making it easier to remove.

The only drawback to this method is the possibility of melting carpet fibers so use extreme caution.

Freeze It

Did you know that freezing is an effective way to remove gum from carpet?

Freezing it will make the gum harden, thus making it easier to scrape off with a blunt object such as a butter knife.

Once most of the gum is removed, you can make a white vinegar solution by mixing ½ cup of white vinegar with a 1 cup of water. This will effectively clean synthetic carpets.

For natural carpet fibers mix ½ cup of white vinegar with ½ cup of water.

After you make your vinegar solution, dab the cleaning solution onto the stain and let it set for 20 minutes.

Next you should rinse out the cleaning solution with water and remove the excess with a clean cloth.

Repeat this process if necessary.

Removing Hard Candy Stain From Carpet

Lollipops, Jolly Ranchers, and other hard candies are staples of Halloween so you can fully expect to see these in your kid’s candy haul.

The best way to deal with these stains is to follow these steps:

  1. Scrape up excess candy from carpet
  2. Grab a sponge and dish soap and apply ½ teaspoon of dishwashing detergent to the stain
  3. Gently rub detergent into the stain
  4. Blot stain with wet cloth to remove candy stain
  5. Grab a paper towel and some distilled white vinegar
  6. Dab distilled white vinegar on the stain. This will dissolve any remaining candy residue
  7. Clean area with water and let it dry!
  8. Crisis averted!

As you can see these are some pretty basic solutions for removing the hazards of Halloween!
