Christmas is getting so close that you can taste it! Many of us have Christmas traditions such as getting a real christmas tree, making tamales or wearing ugly christmas sweaters!

Our holiday traditions are near and dear to our heart. It is what truly makes the holidays special.

Christmas is a time to reflect with our loved ones and enjoy one another.

It is inevitable that when you have more people in your home, accidents are bound to happen.

Wine gets spilled, water from the christmas tree leaks onto your carpet and kiddos spilling food all over your brand new carpet.

Normally this would be a time for you to panic but don’t fear Phoenix Carpet Repair and Cleaning has you covered!

We want to give you the tools to fight stains during your holiday dinner! Here are a few tips you can use to keep your carpet stain free and ready for a carpet cleaning next year!

Wine Spills

During your holidays celebration I can almost guarantee you that wine is going to be spilled on someone’s carpet.

Is it going to be yours? If it is do you know what to do? Here are a few tips and tricks that you can use to keep wine stains out of your carpet.

Tip 1: Don’t Wait to Blot

Having a eagle eye will help you immensely! Blotting a red wine spill with a clean cloth immediately will prevent the wine from settling into your carpet.

Once you remove the excess wine from your carpet you can focus on making sure it doesn’t stain.

There are a variety of household items that you can use depending on what you have on hand.

Try some of the following household items for red wine stain removal:

Hydrogen Peroxide and Dishwashing Detergent

This homemade solution can be highly effective in lifting red wine stains from your carpet.

On a side note hydrogen peroxide is a bleaching agent so test it on a section of carpet that isn’t seen very often.

To make this home remedy simply mix two parts hydrogen peroxide to one part dishwashing soap. Apply to spill and dab spill until the stain is lifted!

White Wine

Why not fight fire with fire right? As odd as this may sound, when red wine is spilled on your carpet pour some white wine on it!

White wine neutralizes red wine stains and makes it easier to lift the color out of the carpet.

Salt And Club Soda

These items when combined make a powerful non-toxic stain remover. Club soda and salt are effective because it prevents the wine from settling into your carpet.

Liberally pour club soda and salt on the spill. Let it sit overnight. Then blot and vacuum in the morning. The stain should be gone!

Christmas Tree and Water Leakage

The Christmas tree is the symbol of Christmas. Everyone has one in their home, either real or artificial and everyone has an opinion on which is better.

A artificial tree does have many advantages over a real pine tree such as no maintenance and reduced overall cost.

While these are important advantages you can’t replace the smell, the feel and the sentimental value of getting a new christmas tree every year.

The one disadvantage that a real christmas tree has is that is requires watering to stay fresh. This isn’t a big deal but if you have kids or animals, the risk of the tree getting knocked down or moved around is much higher.

This means an increased risk for your carpet to get soaked with water! Did you know that when you bring your christmas tree home for the first time it requires 1 gallon of water.

This water level must be maintained over the season to keep the tree happy and healthy.

Chances are that you won’t  notice that your carpet is water damaged before its too late. The longer you wait the more likely mold and mildew will start to grow.

If your carpet sustains prolonged water damage caused by rowdy kids and pets here is what you should do:

  1. Dry the carpet with towels and fans as soon as possible.
  2. Check carpet, pad and sub-pad to make sure they are completely dry.
  3. Call Phoenix Carpet Repair and Cleaning if you suspect mold damage is present.
