Do you wish that you had an extra helping hand around the house to keep up with the mess that your children and pets have caused?
In an ideal world, hiring someone to clean you home on a daily basis would be great, am I right? The cold hard reality today is most of us have to clean our homes the old fashion way, with our own two hands!
So what can a homeowner do to lighten the load around the house? Buy a robot of course! While not quite on the level of the Jetsons, today’s robots are still pretty rudimentary and perform only simple task such as vacuuming.
Robots and The Future
The emergence of robot helpers might seem like something out of science fiction but is slowly starting to become a reality. In fact 1,800 industry experts, scholars and other analysts believe that by the year 2025 robots will take over more jobs than they create.
While this paints a dim picture of the job prospects for the future, I believe most people would gladly give up the job of vacuuming their home to a robot.
So is purchasing a “robo-vac” a good idea?
The Robovac Of Today
The robo-vac has been around for quite some time now. Gone are the days when it blindly ran into walls and chased the family dog.
Today’s robo-vacs are intelligent, sophisticated and have more cleaning power than ever before.
Most robo-vacs today come equipped with sensors that can map out a room, detect dirt, schedule cleanings and communicate via Wi-fi. Welcome to the future.
So what are robo-vacs good for? If you are looking for something that is going to keep your floor, carpet and rug tidy between deep cleaning with an upright vacuum cleaner, the robovac is for you.
In fact, some robo-vacs excel at removing pet hair and allergens from your carpet! For instance, the iRobot Roomba 770 is equipped with dual HEPA filters that trap the pet dander, dust, and other allergens that are in your carpet.
The Downside
While there are considerable benefits to owning a robo-vac, there are two major issues with the robo-vac. Price and hours of operation.
Price
Price is something that you have to consider when purchasing a robo-vac. Some are relatively inexpensive, but the old adage, “you get what you pay for” applies here. Robo-vacs at this price point don’t clean very well and are poorly designed.
On the other side of the price scale, you can find robo-vacs going for close to $700! It could be hard to justify spending that kind of money on a maintenance cleaning item though.
For that kind of money, you could easily buy a proper upright vacuum cleaner with much more carpet cleaning power.
Hours Of Operation
Most robo-vacs only have between 1-4 hours of actually cleaning time before they need to be recharged. If you have a large home this could be a problem for you.
Overall a robo-vac could be a great addition to you carpet cleaning arsenal, but nothing is going to replace an upright vacuum cleaner and a proper deep carpet cleaning from Phoenix Carpet Repair & Cleaning!
